equivalency agreement

Equivalency agreements are such agreements that enable to the holders of diplomas and certificates issued in the signatory states to use the documents in the territory of the Czech Republic. These agreements also make the process of recognition easier. Conditions in equivalency agreements may vary in each state and do not apply to all types of documents of education.

The Czech republic is bound by agreements signed with Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, and Germany. Holders of Hungarian, Polish and Slovenian documents can use these document in accordance with the agreement without the need of submitting a document of recognition of foreign university education.

An equivalency agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany doesn't allow for the same procedure. Holders of diplomas issued by German universities need to apply for the recognition of foreign university education at the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (department of university education), or Ministry of Defense, or Ministry of the Interior. If the application meets all formal requirements, the competent recognition authority is obliged to meet the request and issue a certification of recognition.

Diplomas issued in Slovakia are automatically considered as equal to Czech diplomas.
