Internal Market Information System (IMI)

The IMI system is a project that should allow the electronic exchange of information between administration authorities of European Union member states. As a part of the implementation of the Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications, an application was developed that supports the exchange of information on professional qualification documents. In 2009 the system was extended with the application that allows the cooperation indicated by the Directive about services and will be extended to other legal areas. Sharing information in the area of recognition of professional qualifications allows the authentication of an applicant‘s diploma, integrity and identity. The system allows the authorities to search for the cooperating authorities in the applicants country. They can, upon request, send information about the applicant. Documents authenticated by IMI system need no other official authentication.
